thursday thankful list

Posted on: Thursday, March 3, 2016

i’m been feeling a little off lately and i’ve caught myself being too quick to be pessimistic, worried and anxious. and i don’t like to admit that, but it feels good to just type those words out and be honest and share! when i’m feeling this way and shifting into a not-so-great mindset, it’s important for me to take a step back and re-focus. to pray, to read, to meditate, to remember who i am and why i’m here. to remember that living life being scared and worried isn’t a good way to live at all, but that seeking the light and good in all things and in the every day is.

i used to share thursday thankful lists every single week and i miss that practice – of remembering and sharing the big and little things that make life special and amazing. so that’s what i’m going to try to start doing more of, both on this blog and journaling alone before bed.

on sunday at church, i heard these simple words that i’m telling myself over and over and over: “every day is an opportunity to say thank you for blessings seen and unseen.” every single day. every time i feel a wave of worry, anxiety, confusion —  i simply want to find something to be grateful for. my life is surrounded by so many beautiful and amazing things – seen and unseen – to be thankful for, and it’s important to keep seeking that, even when it feels hard to do so.

that being said, today’s thankful list took longer than usual to put together…but here’s where i’m at. i am choosing to take today to jump on the opportunity to say thank you – for any and all things, seen and unseen. this is what i’m thankful for!

Grateful

one of the very first things i started doing when i began blogging was my thursday thankful lists. it became a weekly (and often daily) habit for me to document what i was grateful for in any given moment. it’s a really good practice and one i would recommend to anyone, as it truly allowed me to see how much light and goodness ruled my life over the stress, chaotic and not-so-awesome parts of life.

this quote by melody beattie has a lot of power: “gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. it turns what we have into enough, and more. it turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. it can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

with the attacks in paris, the ongoing Syrian refugee crisis and continued other conflict all over our world, it’s hard to sometimes see the good. there’s a lot of darkness and and devastation and heartbreak and death and hardship and pain and unknown and evil and brokenness. the list goes on and on. bad things happen that are out of our control and it’s hard to feel optimistic. but – it’s so important to find glimmers of hope, of light, of goodness, of peace. this video a of husband’s tribute to his wife after the bombings in paris is a beautiful, heartbreaking and powerful reminder. like the quote above, gratitude is a way we can shift from confusion to clarity, find good in the daily and not get lost in the overwhelming hardships in life.

that being said, here’s what i’m thankful for today. i hope that gratitude fills you with peace, today.
